Event ID: TBC

Skipper (Subject to change): Glenn Porter

Event Type: Public Event, “Open to All”

Event Class: Challenge (overnight sailing with a watch system)

Join us on our ocean racing yacht as we embark on a unique adventure to the UK’s (well, depends who you ask) most westerly point of land, (OK, uninhabited granite Islet), Rockall. Join us for the start of one of our most unique challenges.

After joining and with training, familiarisation and safety briefs over our trip will start as we head off for some cruising through Scotland’s famous waters and onto the west coast, voted best sailing area in the world in 2015. Working our way west the skipper will be keeping an eye out on the weather to chose a good time to leave land behind and cross the 200 Nm of open ocean to Rockall. Made famous through the daily maritime weather forecasts we are unlikely to be able to land, but the dinghy will be on standby just in case!

Training underway in Scotlands stunning outer hebrides

Rounding the famous rock will not be the end of your adventure as we will then set sights for our return perhaps by the outer Hebrides and possibly St. Kilda. Famous for it’s amazing scenery and beaches a bit of Scottish island hopping is always nice on the way back before we finish the trip. This trip normally departs from or arrives into InverKip or Oban. please check the voyage details by following the booking link at the top of the page. There may even be an opportunity to enjoy some Scottish water of life during the trip!

Travel Notes (for our normal operational ports):

Oban:

Oban is well served by bus and train routes and does have a small airport with limited route choices. Car parking is available throughout the town and bookable online (Use the Argyll and Bute council website for best prices), where vehicles can be left, at the owners risk. However, the train route to Oban is one of Scotland’s most scenic and well worth experiencing. Travelling from Glasgow alongside lochs, through glens and over some amazing bridges we highly recommend travelling to Oban by train. However, we also recommend booking a window seat well in advance as they fill up fast in the summer!

Inverkip:

Inverkip train station is a main line station served from Glasgow. Regular bus services also stop in the village. The marina is a 10-15 minute walk from the train station, 5-10 from the bus stop. It is worth noting that the train station is at the top of the village. While that’s not a problem arriving with your gear and going downhill it can be a tough walk up at the end of a trip! Car Parking is available at Kip Marina.

NOTE:

– The cost of this event includes all food, fuel and berthing charges.

– Sailing activity is weather dependent. If conditions are too severe the trip may be postponed, cancelled or the passage plan adjusted.

– Guests need to arrange their own travel to/from the embarkation and disembarkation points which may be different
