Scotland’s Outer Hebrides Explorer

Event Type: Public Event, “Open to All”

Experience Required: None

Event Class: Cruise (Day Sailing with overnight stops)

Brought to you by a Scottish based company, the Outer Hebrides are home to some of Scotland’s most amazing locations. Beaten by the winter weather, fanned by gentle summer winds (and, perhaps the odd stiff breeze) and hosting some of the most amazing anchorages, what’s not to like.

Trip Cruising Area

Our Outer Hebrides explorer operates from the west coast town of Oban with two route options. One route returns to Oban whilst the other finishes in Stornoway. With our mission sights set for the Outer Hebrides you can expect to enjoy some familiarisation onboard as we cruise west.

With the skipper and mate keeping an eye on the weather and planning the best route our crew members will help in making your time onboard as enjoyable as we can. Heading out through the Inner Hebrides there are some great choices for stops where you can take a trip ashore for an evening walk, enjoy some peaceful time at anchor or visit some incredible locations.

with famous sandy beaches an evening walk ashore is a favourite

With our exact itinerary weather dependant daily briefings from the skipper will ensure that you are kept updated with the plans and options each day. Our biggest sailing leg will be the crossing of the Minch, taking us from the Inner to the Outer Hebrides and with options to head either North or South based on the weather flexibility will remain key.

With sandy beaches, isolated villages, beautiful islands and the bustling metropolis of Stornoway all within range there truly is something for everyone on this trip. Once we reach the Outer Hebrides it will then be time for exploring some of the marinas and anchorages in this amazing place.

Whether returning back to Oban or heading north to Stornoway the exploring will not stop. With possible routes taking in the North coast of Skye, or the southern islands of the Inner Hebrides this is a trip that delivers from start to finish!

Returning back to the west coast port of Oban for disembarkation there may even be time for a whistle stop tour of Oban, with its famous chocolate shop and distillery!

Choosing the route that ends in Stornoway you will head North exploring more of the coast of the Isle of Lewis

Travel Notes:

Oban is well served with rail and road access and also has a small airport (mainly serving private planes and the island communities). We think though, that the train journey from Glasgow is well worth considering as it takes in some of Scotland’s most amazing scenery as it snakes it’s way through Scottish Lochs and mountains. Car parking is also available to book online, in advance, for various car parks in the Oban area. You can offload at the pontoons car park before parking your vehicle. Oban is also served by EV charge points from a number of different vendors.

Stornoway is the capital of the Outer Hebrides and is well served with regular flights to Glasgow, Edinburgh or Inverness. There is also a regular ferry service to Ullapool where onward bus travel is available.

Our Guarantee:

Unlike many pre-book firms we don’t spend your hard earned money before your trip which means if there is disruption out-with our (and your) control that qualifies for a refund your money is safe and can be returned to you quickly.
