Taeping Clipper - Hull Number One

It all started back in 1996, 30 short years ago…

when the first keel of the first Clipper round the world race yacht was laid at Colvic Craft in Essex. Proudly built in the UK, Taeping, a Clipper 60 class completed four circumnavigations before being used as a training vessel for those racing on the larger, second generation Clipper 68 yachts. Moving on, she ran as a sail experience vessel, undertaking mainly day trips on the South coast of England until 2017 when she migrated North to Scotland.

Now operated by Ocean Sailing Scotland she continues to inspire through adventure sailing and exploration for all ages as her 30th birthday approaches in August 2026.

We are delighted to have the Clipper Race visiting Oban, our summer season port, and we look forward to welcoming our bigger cousins after their last ocean crossing of their current race.

To celebrate this we are delighted to be able to offer cruises on Taeping, the first Clipper yacht, during the Oban stopover. The cruises will take in some amazing locations around the Oban area including our own circumnavigation, but just of the Isle of Kerrera :-) We also plan to enjoy a traditional Scottish lunch anchored in the shadow of Duart Castle.

Our 25 Nautical Mile route will also take in the amazing Ganavan sands, Dunstaffnage Castle, Lady Rock and a sail past the race village and the berthed Clipper race yachts where you will be able to get a real sense of how these icons of the sea have developed over the three generations to the current Clipper 70’s. Each day will start at 09:30am at Dunstaffnage Marina, with your host accompanying you to the yacht where you will have time to look around before we head off. With the day trip expecting to finish back at base around 4pm.

What’s more, all profit from the trips will be donated to the Clipper Race Charity partner for the 25/26 race, Unicef.
