With an instructor to student ratio of 1:4 and the choice of great cruising areas there are no additional charges for training materials, berthing, waterproofs etc. In fact, all of your onboard costs are included in the fee.

Joining the yacht on the evening of day one we will begin with important familiarisation and safety briefings before we settle into your course. Heading out we will watch the weather and route our voyage to suit the conditions on the day. With our crew on hand to guide you and answer any questions you have helping you feel right at home.

By the end of the course you should be able to steer, handle sails, keep a lookout, row a dinghy and assist in all the day to day duties on board. You should also have visited some interesting places and had an enjoyable holiday.

Course content

To experience being at the helm, helping with the sails, dealing with ropes and learning about being safe on the water. This introductory course is ideal for anyone new to sailing. Topics covered include:

  • The yacht and yachting terms

  • Yacht rigging and sails

  • Sail handling

  • Rope work

  • Fire precautions and fire fighting

  • Personal safety equipment

  • Man overboard

  • Emergency equipment

  • Meteorology

  • Seasickness

  • Helmsmanship

  • General duties

  • Manners and customs

  • Rules of the road

  • Dinghies/ tenders

On successful completion of the course syllabus you will be awarded the RYA Competent Crew Course completion certificate.

Ability after the course

  • Able to steer, handle sails, keep a lookout, row a dinghy and assist in all the day to day routines

Course cost includes

  • Full board whilst onboard the yacht

  • Safety equipment, i.e. lifejacket and safety line

  • Cooking gas

  • Fuel, although hopefully you will be doing more sailing than motoring

  • Mooring and marina fees

  • Secure marina parking

  • RYA Certificate

£ 695 per person inclusive of all onboard costs

NOTE:

– The cost of this event includes all food, fuel and berthing charges.

– Sailing activity is weather dependent. If conditions are too severe training may be postponed, cancelled or the passage plan adjusted.

– Guests need to arrange their own travel to/from the marina
