The Round Rockall Challenge 2020

Event ID: May0420TC

Skipper (Subject to change): Glenn Porter

Event Type: Public Event, “Open to All”

Event Class: Challenge (overnight sailing with a watch system)

Join us on our ocean racing yacht as we embark on a unique adventure to the UK’s (well, depends who you ask) most westerly point of land, (well uninhabited granite Islet), Rockall. Join us in Scotland’s Clyde Estuary at our home base of Kip Marina just a short trip from Glasgow International Airport.

After joining and with training, familiarisation and safety briefs over our trip will start as we head off for some cruising through Scotland’s famous waters and onto the west coast, voted best sailing area in the world in 2015. Working our way west the skipper will be keeping an eye out on the weather to chose a good time to leave land behind and cross the 200 Nm of open ocean to Rockall. Made famous through the daily weather forecasts we are unlikely to be able to land, but the dinghy will be on standby just in case!

Rounding the famous rock will not be the end of your adventure as we will then set sights for the outer Hebrides and possibly St. Kilda. Famous for it’s amazing scenery and beaches a bit of island hopping is always nice on the way back before we return to port. There may even be an opportunity to enjoy some Scottish water of life during the trip!

The final stage of your adventure will see you cruising the inshore waters of the Firth of Clyde taking a leisurely sail back to Kip marina and the end of your challenge.
