Wednesday was another bumpy night for the team onboard Taeping as they tried to get some rest at Castlebay pontoons. Taking shelter from storm Ali might have reduced the wind but the team still had a heavy swell. With heavy lines secured to the pontoon the swell made for an uncomfortable night. Our ropes held up well with just one getting damaged despite the conditions.
With a new day and conditions set to ease it was time to check the yacht over and head out into the Atlantic. It would have been nice to stay in the shelter but with light head winds forecast it was time to make use of the better winds while we could.
Motoring out into the sound of Pabbay we started to feel the swell coming off the Atlantic. As we left the sound we pushed out into the breaking waves with our stay sail and 3 reefs in the main.
As the winds and swell continued to ease throughout the day we have been making good speed heading towards Iceland. This is Taeping, our ocean racing yacht in her element and we were soon making great progress. With lighter wind and headwinds forecast in the coming days we will make the most of the faster conditions while we can.
Now, did someone say there was extra chocolate when we started the ocean crossing!
