It’s here, our 2018 Iceland circuit has got underway with Taeping slipping lines from Kip Marina on the 17th September 2018! With crew joining on the 16th the yacht was prepped, provisions stored and bunks allocated before settling down to a first crew dinner and an early night.
After the completion of final checks and running repairs on the morning of the 17th it was time to to up the water tanks and head out into a rather damp Clyde. With the focus on completing final training sessions on sail and yacht handling it wasn’t long before the first ever Clipper race yacht was passing Arran. Okay, the crew struggled to see the island in the Scots mist but once rounded the south it was beam reaching time with some great sailing.
With storm Helene very much influencing the sailing pattern over these first few days of this trip the crew decided to anchor off Sanda for the night to let the worst of the high winds pass. It’s also much more impressive to round the world famous “Mull of Kintyre” in daylight.
As the team dodge the worst of the weather over the next few days it will provide some great passage planning opportunities for the team as they head out into the North Atlantic on their way to Iceland.
