A sailor always knows that the weather will be what it will be. For us, on day three (second at sea) of our Duke of Edinburgh Gold expedition the wind was a bit light for any real sailing. However that meant that conditions were ideal for our sail hoisting and practise sessions. With helming and navigation continuing it was a bit more tricky with the wind influencing the yacht.
With Rod Stewart and the famous song "Mull of Kintyre" being hummed by the crew old enough to remember it we motor sailed "Round the Mull". Reaching our destination of Port Ellen late afternoon we did a beach Clean and removed a lot of single use and microplastics for recycling.
With the weather for 2nd June forecast to be a bit uncomfortable we won't be sailing. Instead, after breakfast has been finished, the yacht cleaned and we have topped up the water we will be heading for an exploratory walk. We may even fit in a distillery tour!
In the afternoon it will be back to work focussing on our competent crew exercises before dinner. With knots and nav high on the agenda it's looking like a learning Sunday today. After dinner it will be passage planning and weather checks for our next day of our DofE Gold award.
